The South Lake Tahoe A-Frame Vacation Cabin

South lake tahoe, California

Project Scope: Full Interior Renovation + Furnishings

Generations of memories had been made in this A-frame cabin, but the clients wanted a modern update while preserving a few cherished elements. Designed for year-round use—skiing in winter, lake days in summer, and hiking in spring and fall—the goal was to create a relaxed space for entertaining and making new family and friend memories.

The cabin was gutted to the studs and fully renovated with all-new interior finishes, custom cabinetry, and furnishings. The three-bedroom, two-bath layout—including a small kitchen, dining area, great room, and loft—was thoughtfully redesigned for modern family living.

Every detail of the design and material selection was carefully considered. Custom upholstery features kid-proof, easy-to-clean fabrics, and durable, high-quality materials provide lasting peace of mind. Layered lighting was thoughtfully planned—a particular challenge in A-frame cabins—to ensure the space works beautifully in every season.

Sandblasting the existing ceilings dramatically brightened the cabin, while a full update on the existing the wood-burning fireplace preserved its essential role in the cabin’s cozy experience.

Each room tells its own story with a distinct color palette, yet the overall feeling remains serene and cohesive. We were fortunate that the clients share a love for Turkish kilim rugs, Moroccan silk textiles, the texture of African mudcloth, and the vibrant mix of colors and patterns they bring.
