The Vintage Mid Century Midtown Project
A young professional couple came to us looking to reimagine their 1941 bungalow in Midtown Sacramento. At just 1,206 square feet, the home was undeniably charming—love at first sight—but it wasn’t quite keeping up with the needs of their modern lifestyle. Storage was limited, and the layout felt tight, with three bedrooms, one bath, and a laundry cabinet tucked into a petite galley kitchen—cozy even for a household of two (and their dogs).
We knew it was a perfect match when we discovered we shared a love for Boston Terriers. From there, the collaboration felt effortless. We were brought on to lead a full interior remodel, including the addition of a dedicated laundry room and powder bath—transforming the home into a space that felt both functional and beautifully considered.
A few years later, we had the pleasure of working together again, this time converting their garage into a refined home office and guest retreat—an evolution that reflected how the home continues to grow with them.

Space planning was the greatest challenge from the start. But discovering the couple’s exceptional taste—and their collection of art and vintage pieces to incorporate—made the process all the more inspiring.
Layering in custom details throughout the home—from moments of color to warm walnut wood tones and copper pipe shelving in the kitchen to showcase their glassware—transformed the bungalow into a space that feels both highly livable and effortlessly suited for entertaining.
We partnered with a local maker to create a floating live-edge walnut slab vanity, paired with a top-mounted trough sink in the main bath. To bring energy to a more budget-conscious tile selection, we introduced a playful layout in the tub/shower surround.
A whimsical wallpaper in the powder bath adds a moment of visual interest just off the laundry room, while in the den, a custom sectional was carefully designed to fit the compact space—perfect for cozy movie nights.
The garage conversion was an especially FUN chapter of the project. It all started with a bold wallpaper our clients instantly fell in love with—setting the tone for everything that followed. We paired it with a glass garage door that can be fully open on a beautiful Sacramento spring day while flooding the space with natural light.
Raising the ceiling was a total game changer, and with the addition of a large backyard window and skylights, the space now feels bright, open, and inspiring—a place our client truly enjoys working in. We played with paint to subtly define each zone, while a lime green Smeg fridge and vintage record player bring in just the right vibe.
